What to Expect at Your Couples Session

I want to deliver high quality, romantic, and cinematic looking photographs that you will LOVE and cherish forever. We’re going for “feels” here.

How do we get that? By having fun, relaxing, and getting a little creative. Don’t worry. I will help you the whole time. The more you are willing to be out-of-the-box, the more we will get unique your session will be.

My session styles are a mix of posing, prompting, guiding, and directing. At times, you may feel wonder, “Do I really look cute doing this?” But, trust me! I PROMISE not to make you look stupid.

You do not have to…

  1. Have modeling experience
  2. Look up and practice poses ahead of time
  3. Feel comfortable and natural in front of the camera
  4. Do anything you’re uncomfortable with (if you’re reserved, shy, uncomfortable with something, that’s okay!)

Things that will help your experience

  1. Prep your partner (see below)
  2. Loosen up! We’re going to have fun and you’re comfortability will translate to your photos
  3. Optional: Bring props in the form of accessories (hats, scarfs, etc.), jackets to take on/off/carry, blankets, anything that is appropriate to our location (beach/woods). We may not use them and may only use them for a portion but props can make pictures visually interesting and fun (do not bring tons of props; remember, they’re only a tool; you’re the focus)
  4. Pets are welcome but please have a plan for them to be contained during part of the photo shoot. Prepare to pick up and dispose of animal droppings. Bring water! Bring a leash as most public places do not allow your animal to run loose.

Beach sessions

  1. If you’re comfortable getting in the water (or partly in the water) at the end of the session, please prepare for this! Remember, wet dresses get heavy when wet. I encourage flowy dresses, but beware of this is they’re low cut in front or back (it will want to pull down when wet)
  2. Bring towels, change of clothes, shoes you can walk in (or prepare to be barefoot)
  3. Remember, it’s colder at the beach than the temperature states because of the wind. If fall, winter, early spring sessions, bring sweaters, jean jackets, or anything that will help you combat the cold. If you’re freezing, you’ll be miserable. A big jacket to wear in-between pictures doesn’t hurt either!

How to prep your partner

  1. Let them know the shoot could be up to an hour and a half (your session is one hour but if you’re having fun, “killing it,” and there’s still light, I won’t cut off the shoot! Often, my favorite pictures are from the end of the session.
  2. Let them know they will be asked to walk, run, fake laugh (sorry!), kiss, and more! They may feel stupid doing some of these prompts, but the outcome will be worth it!
  3. You may be doing a lot of the same things over and over again in different spots within our location.
  4. Just be patient and enjoy your time together! It’ll be a breeze.
